Register now for the symposium on feminist action at Kent

As part of the University’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the project ‘Radical Women’ project will celebrate, showcase and disseminate the achievements of feminist academics at Kent in improving women’s rights and well-being through their research, scholarship, pedagogy and activism over the last four decades.

The University of Kent played a pioneering role in the establishment of Women’s Studies as a legitimate and respected discipline in UK higher education in the 1970s, offering the first UK course in this subject. Subsequently, the University has enjoyed an unparalleled reputation for feminist research, primarily, but not exclusively, in the Social Sciences.

Throughout the year, the project team are planning to host a number of events and activities to celebrate feminist achievements at the University of Kent, setting them in the context of research over the past fifty years. The first of these, the ‘Radical Women Symposium’ takes place on 21 March 2015.

Speakers will include current staff and students, and also activists and experts from the local community, former students from the Kent Women’s Studies programme, and visiting speakers. This one-day event starts at 9.30 and will be followed by a drinks and buffet reception.
