Do you have any advice for students thinking about doing the RJC module?
Absolutely! Here’s my advice for students considering the RJC summer school:
Embrace an open mindset: Approach the course with an open mind and a willingness to challenge your existing beliefs and perspectives. Restorative justice is a paradigm shift from traditional approaches, so be receptive to new ideas and alternative methods of conflict resolution.
Actively engage in discussions: Take advantage of the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with your peers and instructors. Share your thoughts, ask questions, and listen attentively to different perspectives. This interactive environment will deepen your understanding and enrich your learning experience.
Practice self-reflection: Restorative justice involves introspection and self-awareness. Take the time to reflect on your own biases, assumptions, and experiences related to conflict and justice. Engaging in self-reflection will enhance your ability to approach restorative justice with empathy, understanding, and humility.
Seek practical application opportunities: Look for opportunities to apply restorative justice principles and practices outside the classroom. This could involve volunteering with local restorative justice programs, participating in mock restorative circles, or exploring case studies and real-life examples. Practical application will help solidify your understanding and hone your skills.
Build a supportive network: Connect with like-minded individuals who are also interested in restorative justice. Engage in discussions, attend conferences or workshops, and join relevant professional networks. Building a supportive network will allow you to continue learning and growing beyond the course and provide opportunities for collaboration in the future.
Stay updated and explore further: Restorative justice is a dynamic field, with ongoing research and evolving practices. Stay updated with current literature, research, and developments in the field. Consider exploring further education or training opportunities to deepen your knowledge and expertise in restorative justice.
You can maximize your learning experience and develop a strong foundation in restorative justice principles and practices using these suggestions.
