We are pleased to announce that Dan Burrows, Lecturer in Criminology, has successfully completed his PhD.
Dan’s research sought to provide a contribution to the developing field of the criminology of war, from the perspective of cultural criminology. The thesis focussed upon a critical analysis of the mainstream western print news media’s explanations of violence during the US-led occupation of Iraq, testing the hypothesis that the mainstream media wilfully neglected to present a comprehensive analysis of state crime in occupied Iraq. The research utilised data from the Wikileaks Iraq War Logs and human rights reports in order to provide evidence of the consistent and routine resort to state-sanctioned violence by occupying Coalition and associated proxy forces, in stark contrast to the dominant media discourse that had been constructed.
Dan’s official title is now Dr Dan Burrows.
