As a result of its successes in recent rankings and reviews, the School is delighted to announce that up to four scholarships will be made available to PGR students to enable them to travel to Prato, Italy, 11-13 July (provisional dates) in order to participate in an Advanced Writings Skills Workshop.
* This workshop involves academics and students from the University of Monash, Australia, and from top Universities in the UK. It is designed for students who are at an advanced stage of their PhD research and writing up, and who are working on an article for submission to a refereed journal. The focus of the workshop involves working on a draft article in an attempt to get it close to submission standard, and provides careers advice as well as specialist sessions on the publishing process.
The Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis. If you are interested, you should ensure you have the support of your supervisors (who will need to vouch for the stage of completion you are at) and should submit an abstract for your article (and the draft chapter/writing from which it draws) to Professor Chris Shilling. The provisional deadline for this is Friday 2nd December 4pm.
* The value of the awards are £450 each. Successful applicants are expected to put the £200 School allowance they receive towards the costs of the trip. Based on last year’s prices, this £650 should cover all costs. Any additional expenses, however, must be met by the student.
