In September 2019 we split the Functional Materials Research Group (FMG) into three new research groups; two Chemistry and one Physics. In this blog post we explain more about the new Chemistry groups that have been formed. <\/p>\n

Over the last five years or so SPS has grown substantially and FMG was a broad name which no longer reflected the excellent research being done in SPS. As part of the School strategy review, we split the group into three more focused groups –\u00a0 Physics of Quantum Material (PQM), Supramolecular, Interfacial and Synthetic Chemistry (SISC) and Materials for Energy and Electronic (MEE). In this post we look at the two Chemistry focused groups.<\/p>\n

The Supramolecular, Interfacial and Synthetic Chemistry (SISC)<\/a> research group \u00a0focuses on molecular chemistry for the development of new technologies. Research focuses on supramolecular, interfacial, macromolecular, biomolecular, redox, and materials chemistry including polymers. The SISC group is led by Dr Helena Shepherd.<\/p>\n

The other Chemistry research group is the Materials for Energy and Electronic<\/a> (MEE) research group. Research within this group focuses on exploring new materials, experimentally and computationally, that build towards a sustainable society. Research interests include magnetic and electronic materials and energy materials such as photovoltaics and batteries. The MEE group leader is Dr Paul Saines.<\/p>\n

Both groups contain academics, postdoctoral associates, postgraduate and undergraduate researchers who work together to deliver novel and exciting research. This research is presented around the world as part of conferences and university seminars demonstrating the global reach of research performed within SPS. Additionally, the groups have regular group meetings where this research is presented to allow discussion and a constant flow of ideas. New publications and research advances can be found on the groups webpages and displayed on the screens in the Ingram Foyer.<\/p>\n
