Our work has application in many industries, including renewable energy, medicine and security.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a list of current self-funded Research Masters projects available within each listed group.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/applied-optics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Applied Optics Group<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The Applied Optics Group (AOG) develops advanced optical systems for imaging and sensing, with applications in medicine, science and industry. One of our core strengths is in optical coherence tomography for medical imaging, alongside research interests in adaptive\u00a0optics, microscopy, endoscopy, photoacoustics and spectroscopy. The group also has expertise in high-speed microwave photonics and acousto-, electro- and magneto-optics.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/applied-optics\/2019\/04\/23\/msc-project-in-optical-machine-learning-classification-for-spectroscopy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MSc Project in Optical Machine Learning Classification for Spectroscopy<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nDr Michael Hughes<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/applied-optics\/2019\/04\/23\/bridging-the-gap-between-optical-coherence-tomography-and-histology-in-imaging-skin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bridging the Gap Between Optical Coherence Tomography and Histology in Imaging Skin<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nProfessor Adrian Podoleanu<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/applied-optics\/2019\/04\/23\/parallel-processing-of-optical-coherence-tomography-signals-using-graphic-cards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parallel Processing of Optical Coherence Tomography Signals using Graphic Cards<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nProfessor Adrian Podoleanu, Dr Konstantin Kapinchev, Dr Adrian Bradu<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/applied-optics\/2019\/04\/23\/gpu-based-parallel-optimisations-in-image-processing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GPU-Based Parallel Optimisations in Image Processing<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nDr Adrian Bradu and co-supervisor Dr Konstantin Kapinchev<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/applied-optics\/2019\/04\/23\/portable-optical-coherence-tomography-for-angiography-of-the-eye-with-no-injection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Portable Optical Coherence Tomography for Angiography of the Eye with no Injection<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nProfessor Adrian Podoleanu, Dr Adrian Bradu and Dr Manuel Marques<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/astrophysics-and-planetary-science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre for Astrophysics and Planetary Science<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The group\u2019s present research spans a range of themes including Solar System and Space Science, the Interstellar Medium, Star Formation and Planetary Nebulae. The activities include infrared astronomy, astrobiology, astrochemistry, astrofluids and numerical astrophysics.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/astrophysics-and-planetary-science\/research-masters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Masters in Observational Astrophysics:\u00a0Population of Young Stars<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nDr Dirk Froebrich<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/astrophysics-and-planetary-science\/research-masters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Masters in Observational Astrophysics: Small Scale Structure and Properties of Accretion Disks around Young Stars<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nDr Dirk Froebrich<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/astrophysics-and-planetary-science\/research-masters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Masters in Observational Astrophysics: Dips and outbursts in Stars<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nDr Dirk Froebrich<\/p>\n<p id=\"page-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/astrophysics-and-planetary-science\/2019\/04\/26\/research-masters-in-high-mass-star-formation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Research Masters in High-Mass Star Formation<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/a>Dr James Urquhart<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/functional-materials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Functional Materials Group<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The FMG is an interdisciplinary group carrying out research in a broad and diverse range of topics concerning the synthesis, characterization and modelling of functional materials, as exemplified by materials with useful optical, magnetic, catalytic, electronic and biomedical properties. The benefits of computer modelling and theory to augment experimental work are also exploited.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a
