Congratulations to our Division of Natural Sciences winners and runners up in this year’s Staff Recognition Awards.

With so many nominations in all five categories, our winners really are inspirational.

The Inspiring Leader award went to our very own Professor Jennifer Hiscock for her work on huge world problems, commitment to EDI and supportive nature. Jen works tirelessly to advocate Women in STEM through the International Women in Supramolecular Chemistry Network and championing the retention and progression of women and other marginalised groups.

When asked about the award, Jen said:

“It is humbling. This validation makes all the hard work worthwhile, and it was fantastic to see such representation at the Staff Awards 2022 from the School of Chemistry and Forensic Science. Success is very much a team effort.”

Inspiring Leader Runner-Up, Dr Chris Shepherd, another member of the Division was nominated for his leadership in the Forensic Science courses, with the programme ranking number one in The Guardian University Guide 2023.

“It was a great honour being recognised for my leadership of the forensic science course at Kent and means all the more with the nomination coming from a fellow colleague. A big thank you must also go to all colleagues that work alongside me and make our forensic science course the national success that it is. It’s a phenomenal team effort.”

Other awards for NATS colleagues include:

Community Ambassador Runner-Up: the Kent Unicorns Netball Team for their impact on the Kent community and support in promoting the All Active programme. If you look closely, you’ll spot Candis in the middle of the top row.

Innovation Champion Runner-Up: Dr Hazel Harris and the Chemistry lab team for their work over the last two years to completely redesign our lab-based teaching.

Great Team Runner-Up: The BAME Staff Network which includes Professor Gurprit Lall.

We are very proud of all of our staff within the Division, and it is lovely to see so many getting recognition for all the hard work that has been put in to shaping the department we work in.
