On their first ever outing, the School of Physical Sciences (SPS) team “Let’s Get Physical” gave an excellent performance in the 2017 Vice Chancellor’s Cup, coming 4th out of 19 teams.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Cup is an inter-departmental staff and postgraduate student competition to encourage people to keep active and have fun. A variety of sports and challenges took place from January to September, from more traditional competitive activities such as volleyball, rounders and tennis, to the more unusual options of bat and trap, Gladiators, and even a pub quiz.
Although they just missed out on the overall top spots, “Let’s Get Physical” reached the podium in a number of individual events, coming 1st place in both table tennis and petanque, and 2nd place in basketball, badminton, ultimate Frisbee and The Cube.
Well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to those who supported the teams during the competition. Special thanks goes to Dr Kathryn Harriss, a research associate in SPS, for organising all the participants and for her motivational efforts as team captain. We hope everyone enjoyed it, and that it has encouraged even more people to participate next year!
