Celebrating Women in STEM

Last month SPS ran a competition designed to help us do a better job at celebrating women in STEM. Here we share the winning slide.

We asked students to choose a lecture they have had delivered to them while at Kent and highlight where a woman scientist could be credited/acknowledged/discussed in that lecture. We want to use lectures to highlight diversity in STEM, so these suggestions may be used in future delivery.

The winner was announced on 6th March – just in time to celebrate International Women’s Day on 7th March. First year Physics student Phoebe Barrett impressed us with her slide celebrating Katherine Johnson, and she is now the proud owner of a limited edition Lego Research Institute set.

Congratulations to Phoebe.

Here is the winning Powerpoint slide – keep an eye out in future lectures!
