NSS and UGS Month: What You Need To Know

The National Student Survey and Undergraduate Survey both launch this February, so we've put together all the key information you need to know

We value your voice, and it’s really important that we get your feedback on your experiences of studying with SPS. Your thoughts and suggestions help us to improve your own student experience and for students who study at Kent in the future.

Both the NSS and UGS launch on Monday 28th January 2019, and are fantastic ways for you to share your personal experiences and tell us what changes you would like to see. Not everyone is eligible for NSS, but everyone can make their voice heard thanks to the University’s Undergraduate Survey.

Here are the key things you need to know about both surveys:

National Student Survey (NSS)

This is a national survey open to mainly final year students. Not everyone is eligible, so keep an eye on your emails as if you are you will be contacted by NSS and sent the link to the survey. If you get this link, please complete the survey honestly and thoroughly. As a thank you for your time there are a number of incentives on offer.

In addition to the university’s incentive of a £10 Amazon voucher, the School of Physical Sciences is offering its students the following:

4 x weekly prize draws across all participants to win an SPS hoody

1 x bonus prize draw for each cohort of Chemistry students, Forensic Science students and Physics students that manage to achieve a 90% completion rate. The prize will be £100 if 90% is achieved, £150 if 95% is achieved and £200 if 100% completion is achieved!

For everyone who provides proof of completing the National Student Survey gets a delicious creme egg! Just pop to the Student Office Counter with your proof of confirmation to claim yours.

If you are eligible to fill in the NSS, and complete it within the first three weeks, make sure you claim for your free £10 Amazon voucher by providing proof of completion to nssawards@kent.ac.uk.

Undergraduate Survey (UGS)

We understand that the NSS is not available for all undergraduates. But because it’s important that everyone has a chance to be heard, the University of Kent is also running an Undergraduate Survey for all students.

If you’re eligible, you will receive an email from Professor April McMahon, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, during the week commencing 28 January 2019. So keep an eye on your inbox! Once you have completed the Undergraduate Survey, make sure you pop to the Student Office Counter with your proof of confirmation you have completed the UGS to claim your free tasty creme egg!

If you would like to find out more about the survey, please head to www.kent.ac.uk/survey.

Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Students

We hope you made it to our Postgraduate/Postdoctoral Networking Session on Friday 25th January and gave us your feedback. If not, watch this space for the next event. In the meantime, please feel free to pop any feedback and suggestions in the “student voice” box in the Ingram Foyer. There will also be a survey for Postgraduate students later in the year – watch this space or look at the Graduate School webpages.

You Said, We Did – All Year Round

We value your input, and following the NSS results of 2018, we have since placed a Suggestions Box in the Ingram Foyer, as a permanent feature going forward. We look forward to making your student experience at SPS the best it can be, based on your valuable feedback.

Our Head of School will also be holding some ‘drop in sessions’ about the School’s strategy in lunch intervals with refreshments so come along and give us your thoughts and feedback. These will run on the following days:

Wednesday 13th February 12.00 – 13.00 Room 108
Thursday 28th February 13.00 – 14.00 Room 108
Thursday 14th  March 13.00 – 14.00 Room 108
Tuesday 2nd April 13.00 – 14.00 Ingram Lecture Theatre
