SPS Societies Round-Up

Find out what ChemSoc, PhySoc, SpaceSoc and UKC Forensic Science Society have been up to so far

ChemSoc and BioSoc Quiz University of Kent

Term may have only started just over a month ago, but our SPS student societies have already been busy hosting events including guest speakers and a Pub Quiz – and they still have lots of exciting events planned for the next few months.

ChemSoc

ChemSoc have been going from strength to strength and have been busy this term. Recent invents include a Welcome Party for new society members and a fantastic talk from guest speakers from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). This was a wonderful opportunity for members to gain insight into life working at GSK and to ask any questions about life in industry.

ChemSoc also teamed up with BioSciences Society, BioSoc, for a Pub Quiz which had a fantastic turnout and showcased how well societies can work together to share events. Keeping up the momentum, ChemSoc have an astrochemistry talk planned for the 8th November, which will be delivered by our new SPS Head of School Professor Nigel Mason and SPS Physics student Alejandra Traspas-Muina. Alejandra has recently returned from a very competitive internship at the University of Tokyo, and will be sharing her experiences and how she applied at the talk. In the meantime, you can find out more about her internship in our recent blog post. ChemSoc are also hoping to organise another informal social event which will include a ‘meet and mingle’.

SPS Senior Lecturer in Forensic Science, Robert Green shared his experience using his Forensic knowledge and skills in a real case, and UKC Forensic Science also enjoyed an informative insight into a Sudden Death Scene Investigation Talk from Kent Police. Society Members also had the opportunity to hear a talk on Body Language and its use in Forensic Science.UKC Forensic Science Society University of Kent Follow UKC Forensic Science on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date with details on their next events.
