{"id":4521,"date":"2024-01-29T11:03:22","date_gmt":"2024-01-29T11:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/specialcollections\/?p=4521"},"modified":"2024-01-29T12:27:32","modified_gmt":"2024-01-29T12:27:32","slug":"oral-history-volunteers-get-involved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/specialcollections\/2024\/01\/29\/oral-history-volunteers-get-involved\/","title":{"rendered":"Oral History Student Volunteers &#8211; Get involved!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Local Stories: Memories of Hopping around Brook and Wye, Kent.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/specialcollections\/files\/2024\/01\/BRM-Call-for-Oral-History-Volunteers-final.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4522\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/specialcollections\/files\/2024\/01\/BRM-Call-for-Oral-History-Volunteers-final.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"283\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Do you&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have an interest in oral history?<\/li>\n<li>Want to receive free training in conducting oral history interviews?<\/li>\n<li>Have an interest in local history or the history of hopping and hop picking in Kent?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If so &#8211; come and get involved with this fantastic new project in Special Collections and Archives &#8211; where you will interview people from the Brook and Wye area about their memories of hopping.<\/p>\n<p>Special Collections and Archives are working in partnership with Brook Rural Museum on a project for students to explore local peoples\u2019 memories associated with the experience of hop picking and farming in and around Brook and Wye, Kent.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteering on this project will provide you with skills in oral history interviewing (with training from an experienced oral historian) and associated tasks, such as making transcriptions and recording summaries. Most interviews will take place in the villages of Brook or Wye, and expenses for travel will be available. Some aspects of the role can be carried out remotely.<\/p>\n<p>The project will take place between March and June 2024 and will conclude in late 2024 with an exhibition in the Templeman Gallery and at Brook Rural Museum showcasing extracts from the oral history interviews.<\/p>\n<p>Please get in touch at engagement@brookruralmuseum.org.uk to express an interest and receive information about the application process,.
