{"id":1519,"date":"2013-02-14T12:31:06","date_gmt":"2013-02-14T12:31:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/specialcollections\/?p=1519"},"modified":"2013-02-14T12:31:06","modified_gmt":"2013-02-14T12:31:06","slug":"loving-lyly-talk-on-25-feb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/specialcollections\/2013\/02\/14\/loving-lyly-talk-on-25-feb\/","title":{"rendered":"Loving Lyly: talk on 25 Feb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We may have gone a little quiet about our annual <strong>Special Collections &amp; Archives and Cathedral Library lecture series<\/strong>, but rest assured, we have been thinking on it!<\/p>\n<p>The second lecture of the series will be given by UoK&#8217;s very own <strong>Dr. Andy Kesson<\/strong>, who is also a guest lecturer at Shakespeare&#8217;s Globe. Andy&#8217;s research focusses upon literature, performance and cultural theory, particularly in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. He will be talking about one of Canterbury&#8217;s early modern playwrights, in a lecture entitled:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Loving Lyly; or, why does Canterbury not celebrate its most successful writer, John Lyly?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The talk will take place on <strong>Monday 25 February<\/strong> in the <strong>AV Suite at the Cathedral Lodge<\/strong>, within Canterbury Cathedral precincts. <strong>Refreshments<\/strong> will be available from <strong>6pm<\/strong>, and the talk will start at 6.30. <strong>All are very welcome<\/strong> to join us, from within the University or as a member of the public.<\/p>\n<p>The first lecture in our 2012\/2013 season was given in November by <strong>Dr James Baker<\/strong>, who spoke about his research into the literary creation of <strong>Dr Syntax<\/strong> by Thomas Rowlandson and George Coombe. The British Cartoon Archive has recently acquired a major collection relating to this nineteenth century cultural icon.
