On Thursday 21st May 2026, the POC Humanities Club got the opportunity to watch Hamilton in Victoria Palace Theatre! During the day, new friendships were formed, and members of the club were given the opportunity to watch the multi-racial cast intersect American history and Hip-Hop elements to explore cultural identity. Providing a space for members to explore their cultural identity within the School of Humanities, the day gave the opportunity for some students to attend the theatre for the first time!
The musical promoting the importance of representation for people of colour inspired discussions amongst the group of what it means to be a POC student in humanities subjects. Students across English, History and Classical studies comfortably discussed what racial identity meant to them and were able to express their voices in a space created for them to be heard. The POC Humanities Club aims to allow all voices to be heard and provide a stronger sense of community within the School of Humanities. This all-inclusive trip providing free travel and tickets to the students enabled gateways to be opened for students to experience new opportunities whilst also being proud of their cultural heritage.
Reflecting on the day, students felt more motivated to revisit the theatre and felt more comfortable forming friendships across other the other humanities subjects. The POC Humanities Club aims to provide more of these opportunities for students and allow the club to grow into a space for all POC students to be seen, heard and proud of their cultural identity.
