It is a powerful system that can be utilised to store files, run command line programs, and even sometimes submit assignments. You will learn more about it on other modules.<\/p>\n<p>The three folders you now have open have different purposes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>courses<\/strong> &#8211; Used to distribute content such as class or assignment materials.<\/li>\n<li><strong>home<\/strong> &#8211; Your own personal storage to use across machines, only you can access this.<\/li>\n<li><strong>proj<\/strong> &#8211; Used to submit class or assignment work for marking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are two ways to access it: mounting it as a drive to your file browser for managing files, and through a computer terminal to run Unix commands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mounting Raptor as File Drive\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Campus PC:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Right-click the Windows start icon and select \u201cFile Explorer\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-71\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/soc-student-news\/files\/2026\/03\/raptor1_1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"376\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2. In the new File Explorer window, click on the blank white bar at the top of the window<\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-72\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/soc-student-news\/files\/2026\/03\/raptor1_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"2218\" height=\"1255\" \/><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Type \u201c\\\\raptor.kent.ac.uk\\exports\u201d and press the enter key on the keyboard<\/li>\n<li>You should see three folders titled \u201ccourses\u201d, \u201chome\u201d, and \u201cproj\u201d as shown below.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-73\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/soc-student-news\/files\/2026\/03\/raptor1_3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"644\" height=\"364\" \/><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>For easier access in the future, click the three dots in the menu bar and select \u201cPin to Quick access\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Now you should see the \u201cexports\u201d folder in the sidebar, right below the \u201cVideos\u201d folder as shown in the image.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Windows Laptop:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Follow the same step 1 as above.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to \u201cThis PC\u201d if you\u2019re not already there.<\/li>\n<li>Click the three dots in the menu bar just above the (C:) drive, then press \u201cMap network drive\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-74\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/soc-student-news\/files\/2026\/03\/raptor2_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"2218\" height=\"1255\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>In this new window, type \u201c\\\\raptor.kent.ac.uk\\exports\u201d in the Folder prompt, then check the \u201cConnect using different credentials\u201d box if it hasn\u2019t already been.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/soc-student-news\/files\/2026\/03\/raptor2_3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"412\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>A prompt will appear asking you for a password but don\u2019t enter it as it won\u2019t work.
