The Hackspace – The New SOC Design Workshop Expansion

The Hackspace Workshop showing tables, chairs and equiptment

The Hackspace is now open! The School of Computing has unveiled the fantastic new and improved state-of-the-art creative workshop space in the Kennedy Building.

This new exciting space expands the current design workshop, and it offers more new and exciting opportunities for students in Computing to get creative and hands-on. The Hackspace was opened by the Vice Chancellor Georgina Randsley de Moura, as we welcomed the first guests to the space – take a look at the grand opening here.

The workshop has new workstations, cutting-edge technology including 3D printers, soldering gear, milling machines and so much more. It’s a great space to get creative, work on projects, design, and print. If you are working on an assignment or project, The Hackspace can provide you with a dedicated workspace to focus, create, and build, bringing your designs to life. Take a look at the School of Computing Instagram page UniKentComp, check out the exciting new space, and see what’s on offer.

Whether you’re a Computing student or not, all students can take advantage of The Hackspace. If you enjoy making things, come along and join TinkerSoc – The Kent Makers Society. The society meets on a Wednesday evening and is the place to go – you can have a go at 3D printing, laser cutting, and much more. They even run workshops so that you can learn new skills. No experience is required, just pop along to The Hackspace on the ground floor of the Kennedy Building at 6pm on a Wednesday.

Come along and build, create, and innovate. We look forward to seeing you there!
