The role<\/strong>
\nDo you like a challenge? If the answer is yes, then this is the role for you.
\nReporting to the Head of Strategy and MI, this project-based role will stretch your problem solving, programming and systems processing skills, while you provide solutions to our London Market underwriting teams.
\nWhat you will be doing as a Data Science Graduate:
\nA healthy dose of common sense and the ability to think beyond the numbers in this graduate data scientist role are the foundations you\u2019ll need to perform well in this team.
\nAs a data scientist at Hiscox you will be the \u2018go-to\u2019 person for data within the London Market team, and you will be tasked with helping management make better decisions through their use of MI. You will be heavily involved in developing our MI and analytics capabilities, with plenty of scope for creating innovative data visualisations that aid decision making. The problems that this team solve are important and challenging, but hey, what\u2019s more exciting than a challenge?
\nThis is your chance to make a lasting impression! It has many unique selling points, with the most notable being the freedom to pioneer the work that you do at Hiscox! You will be given responsibility from day one, owning your own projects, you will be working with, and supported by experienced colleagues, including the CEO of our London Market team.
\nIf you\u2019re still not convinced, then bear in mind that you will be one of three data scientists at Hiscox! (So you\u2019ll be a pretty big deal).<\/p>\n

What you\u2019ll be doing day to day:<\/strong>
\n\uf0b7 Contribute to high impact strategy projects across the business
\n\uf0b7 Working on a large variety of projects, including; competitive intelligence, automation models, product development, distribution and sales efforts, and many more.
\n\uf0b7 Building complex risk models and help formulate strategic growth plans for key business lines.<\/p>\n

Our must haves<\/strong>
\n\uf0b7 Have completed or are studying towards a BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Computer Science and Maths, Computer Science and Business, or similar.
\n\uf0b7 Basics in machine learning techniques
\n\uf0b7 Data analysis and manipulation skills
\n\uf0b7 Intermediate experience in a few different coding languages and the confidence to switch between them, specifically; Python, R, SQL and VBA
\n\uf0b7 Be determined to succeed in a fast paced environment and a willingness to learn about the business
\n\uf0b7 Have the confidence to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
\nNice to have
\n\uf0b7 Challenge the status quo by being logical, proactive and analytical
\n\uf0b7 Experience with Source Control (Git)<\/p>\n

\nOur two year graduate programme is challenging and varied. \nWe offer participants on our graduate programme the opportunity to view the company from a range of different perspectives by undertaking two six-week domestic secondments and a twelve-week international secondment to one of our offices in Europe, Singapore, the USA or Bermuda. The purpose of the secondments are to broaden and deepen your skills and knowledge whilst contributing to the success of the business.
\nIn a nutshell, our graduate programme provides a combination of practical experience, training, and the opportunity to work alongside highly regarded industry professionals \u2013 all designed for you to fulfil your potential.
\nApplicants to the graduate programme are expected to:
\n\uf0b7 Speak and write in fluent business English
\n\uf0b7 Be available to join the programme in September 2018
\n\uf0b7 Have the unrestricted right to work in the country for which you are applying
\n\uf0b7 Have achieved, or be on track to achieve a 2.2 or above (or equivalent) in your degree
\n\uf0b7 Have grades B or above in GCSE English and Maths and 300 UCAS points from your top 3 A-levels (not including General Studies), or equivalent<\/p>\n
