{"id":968,"date":"2018-06-15T12:58:01","date_gmt":"2018-06-15T11:58:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/?p=968"},"modified":"2019-01-09T14:43:50","modified_gmt":"2019-01-09T14:43:50","slug":"school-to-hold-one-day-workshop-honouring-professor-mark-ablowitz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/school-to-hold-one-day-workshop-honouring-professor-mark-ablowitz\/","title":{"rendered":"School to Hold One-Day Workshop Honouring Professor Mark Ablowitz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science (SMSAS) at Kent will be holding a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnw\/\">one-day workshop on Integrable Systems and Nonlinear Waves<\/a> on Wednesday 18 July.<\/p>\n<p>The Workshop will honour <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/ablowitz\/\">Professor Mark Ablowitz<\/a> from the University of Colorado (Boulder, USA), who will receive an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/news\/kentlife\/18405\/honorary-degrees-announced-for-university-ceremonies-in-july\">Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Kent<\/a> in recognition of his &#8216;exceptional contributions to the science of nonlinear phenomena&#8217;, during a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/influential-professor-of-mathematics-to-receive-honorary-degree-from-kent\/\">ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral on Thursday 19 July. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Workshop speakers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Roger Grimshaw<\/strong> (University College London)<br \/>\nInternal solitary waves and internal undular bore over variable topography<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rod Halburd<\/strong> (University College London)<br \/>\nCarlitz differential equations and integrability<\/li>\n<li><strong>Karima Khusnutdinova<\/strong> (Loughborough University)<br \/>\nOn KP and 2D cKdV-type models for surface and internal waves in fluids<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sara Lombardo<\/strong> (Loughborough University)<br \/>\nSpectra as complex curves: nonlinear waves instabilities by means of elementary algebraic-geometry\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The workshop is supported by a grant from the <a href=\"https:\/\/ima.org.uk\/support\/grants\/qjmam-fund\/\">QJMAM Fund for Applied Mathematics.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is no registration fee and lunch will be provided for registered participants.
