{"id":674,"date":"2017-06-01T09:36:52","date_gmt":"2017-06-01T08:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/?p=674"},"modified":"2019-01-09T14:47:41","modified_gmt":"2019-01-09T14:47:41","slug":"prof-peter-clarkson-celebrates-60th-birthday-at-workshop-on-applied-and-computational-complex-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/prof-peter-clarkson-celebrates-60th-birthday-at-workshop-on-applied-and-computational-complex-analysis\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof. Peter Clarkson celebrates 60th birthday at workshop on &#8216;Applied and computational complex analysis&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 9th May 2017, Professor Peter Clarkson celebrated his 60th birthday whilst attending a workshop on &#8220;Applied and computational complex analysis&#8221; at the International Centre for\u00a0Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p>The ICMS staff and workshop organisers arranged for a special birthday cake which was decorated to illustrate the 60 roots of two\u00a0polynomials. These polynomials are known as &#8220;Generalised Okamoto polynomials&#8221;, first derived by Noumi and Yamada in 1999, and the remarkable, symmetric structure of\u00a0their roots was described in a paper by Peter in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>During the workshop Peter gave a public lecture on &#8220;Rogue waves, tsunamis and solitons&#8221;.
