Jenny Ashcroft and Will Grummitt presented research posters on Baby Skyrmions and Skyrmions.<\/p>\n<p>The group a<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/files\/2016\/06\/Jenny-Ashcroft.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-475\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/files\/2016\/06\/Jenny-Ashcroft-219x300.jpg\" alt=\"Jenny Ashcroft\" width=\"129\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/files\/2016\/06\/Jenny-Ashcroft-219x300.jpg 219w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/files\/2016\/06\/Jenny-Ashcroft.jpg 254w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 129px) 100vw, 129px\" \/><\/a>lso showed off their vortex gun, tornado tubes and 3D printed Skyrmions<\/p>\n<p>On 10<sup>th<\/sup> June, Jenny Ashcroft gave a talk at the\u00a0ICFT at King&#8217;s College London.<\/p>\n<p>The 2nd Eastern Arc Conference on Topological Solitons and Quantum Fluids took place at the University of Kent, between 3<sup>rd<\/sup> and 4<sup>th<\/sup> May 2016. The aim of the conference was to form closer links between the Topological Soliton group at the University of Kent, the Quantum Fluids group at the University of East Anglia and the Nonlinear Waves group at the University of Essex. The conference featured nine talks on topics such as vortices, kinks, Skyrmions and knots and included three female speakers.\u00a0There\u00a0were about\u00a020\u00a0participants,\u00a0from UEA, Essex, Bristol, SMSAS and Physics at Kent. The next Eastern Arc Conference is scheduled to take place at Essex (date to be confirmed)<\/p>\n<p>The second conference on geometric models of nuclear matter will take place from 12<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 15<sup>th<\/sup> September 2016. The conference is supported by conference grants from the London Mathematical Society, the IoP Mathematical and Theoretical Physics Group and th<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/files\/2016\/06\/Topology.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-477\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/files\/2016\/06\/Topology-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Topology\" width=\"202\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/files\/2016\/06\/Topology-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/files\/2016\/06\/Topology-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smsasnews\/files\/2016\/06\/Topology.jpg 327w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 202px) 100vw, 202px\" \/><\/a>e IoP Nuclear Physics Group, with funding available for UK PhD students.<\/p>\n<p>The conference\u00a0 &#8220;SIG V Skyrmions &#8211; from atomic nuclei to neutron stars&#8221; took place at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, from 20-23 June 2016.
