Head of School for the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science<\/a> (SMSAS) at the University of Kent, and Professor of Mathematics, Professor Peter Hydon<\/a>, spoke live on BBC Radio Kent<\/a> today (Thursday 16 May) with Julia George about the importance of adult numeracy.<\/p>\n

Peter cited the many ways mathematical skills are useful in everyday life, from getting more goods for your money in the supermarket, and getting the best deal when buying a car, to being able to find the facts within a sea of misinformation, and solving problems calmly and confidently.<\/p>\n

Peter noted that there is a wealth of resources and information for adults to help improve their mathematics skills, including online tutorials and community classes.<\/p>\n

Kent is offering a FREE short course<\/strong> for adults looking to improve their mathematics skills<\/strong>. The two-hour evening classes will run every Thursday between 6pm and 8pm at Herne Bay High from 6 June to 27 June<\/strong>. More information can be found on the websit<\/a>e.<\/p>\n
