The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science<\/a> (SMSAS) at the University of Kent, will be hosting the London Mathematical Society (LMS) ‘Women in Mathematics Day<\/a>‘ for the first time at Kent’s Canterbury campus on Friday 24 May.<\/p>\n

The annual event provides an opportunity for postgraduates and those at an early stage in their career, the opportunity to\u00a0meet and talk with women who are active and successful in mathematics.<\/p>\n

The programme includes talks given by eminent women mathematicians from various positions and at different career stages. There is a poster session with a prize for the best poster. There will also be an opportunity for postgraduate students to give talks and there will be a panel discussion.<\/p>\n

Female mathematicians at various stages in their careers from the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science will speak at the event, including, Professor of Mathematics, Professor Jing Ping Wang<\/a>, Senior Lecturer in Mathematics, Dr Constanze Roitzheim<\/a>, and PhD Researcher in Mathematics, Ana Rojo-Echebur\u00faa<\/a>. This event organised by Lecturer in Mathematics, Dr Cl\u00e9lia Pech<\/a>, is part of the ‘May 12<\/a>‘ initiative celebrating women in mathematics. May 12th is the birth date the first female Fields medallist, Maryam Mirzakhani.<\/p>\n
