Hannah Marshall achieved First Class Honours in the BSc Actuarial Science with a Year in Industry in 2017 and is due to start work at Hymans Robertson. <\/p>\n

Why did you choose to study at the University of Kent?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I chose to study at Kent because it was one of the only universities to offer Actuarial Science with a Year in Industry<\/a> and I heard that there was a lot of support for securing placements. Plus Canterbury is a lovely place!<\/p>\n

What is the best thing about studying in the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The best thing about studying in the School was constantly being challenged and pushed to achieve my best. All of the Actuarial Science lecturers have industry experience which meant that I was able to link theory to the Actuarial industry, aiding understanding.\u00a0 This was particularly evident modules like Survival Models and Actuarial Practice.<\/p>\n

What has been your favourite topic\/module on your course?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My favourite module on my course was Actuarial Practice because it is very different to all of the other numerical modules and helped me to gain a greater understanding of the actuarial profession.<\/p>\n

What have you found most interesting on your course?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s was really interesting to spend a year on placement to understand the type of work that I will be involved in once I begin my career. It really helped me to understand actuarial theory better in my final year.<\/p>\n

Have you found the School to be supportive? If so, how has the School supported you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The School\u2019s placements team were outstanding, they have helped to open up so many opportunities for me and my university experience wouldn\u2019t have been the same without them. They were hugely supportive and a joy to be around! My placement experience was essential in securing my graduate role.<\/p>\n

What do you think of the Sibson Building? What do you think the Building means for students within the School?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sibson building is absolutely incredible! It is such a fantastic, professional environment for students and staff \u2013 a real asset to the School. I think the Sibson Building means that students have access to more study spaces with whiteboards and computers, and are close by to lecturers to ask for help when need be.<\/p>\n

Can you sum up your course in three words?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Challenging. Rewarding. Valuable<\/p>\n

Would you recommend studying at Kent?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019d definitely recommend studying at Kent. It is such an all-round amazing experience and I have loved every second of it.<\/p>\n
