Undergraduate Research Success

Last summer our undergraduate student, Cam Milliken, was awarded a prestigious Undergraduate Research Bursary by the London Mathematical Society to work with Dr Bas Lemmens and his PhD student Kieran Power on horofunction compactifications of metric spaces. A horofunction compactification is a way to add a boundary at infinity to a space. It allows one to analyse the geometry of the space when one wanders off to infinity. The results of the project were written up in a research paper that was accepted for publication by the journal Involve. This is a well-known journal that publishes high quality research in mathematics with significant input from undergraduate students.
