The topological soliton group took part in this year’s Postgraduate Research festival in May. Jenny Ashcroft and Will Grummitt presented research posters on Baby Skyrmions and Skyrmions.
The group also showed off their vortex gun, tornado tubes and 3D printed Skyrmions
On 10th June, Jenny Ashcroft gave a talk at the ICFT at King’s College London.
The 2nd Eastern Arc Conference on Topological Solitons and Quantum Fluids took place at the University of Kent, between 3rd and 4th May 2016. The aim of the conference was to form closer links between the Topological Soliton group at the University of Kent, the Quantum Fluids group at the University of East Anglia and the Nonlinear Waves group at the University of Essex. The conference featured nine talks on topics such as vortices, kinks, Skyrmions and knots and included three female speakers. There were about 20 participants, from UEA, Essex, Bristol, SMSAS and Physics at Kent. The next Eastern Arc Conference is scheduled to take place at Essex (date to be confirmed)
The second conference on geometric models of nuclear matter will take place from 12th – 15th September 2016. The conference is supported by conference grants from the London Mathematical Society, the IoP Mathematical and Theoretical Physics Group and the IoP Nuclear Physics Group, with funding available for UK PhD students.
The conference “SIG V Skyrmions – from atomic nuclei to neutron stars” took place at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, from 20-23 June 2016. Jenny Ashcroft and Steffen Krusch attended the workshop.
