On 20 June 2019 the School’s Statistics group jointly organised an Innovation event with Kent Innovation and Enterprise (KIE) and the Schools of Engineering and Digital Arts (EDA) and Computing. It was an industry-academia event focusing on the broad topic of machine learning. Its aim was to stimulate collaborations between academia and industry and to create opportunities for collaborative activities.
Professor Jian Zhang presented insights on how newly developed machine learning technologies could power new drug discovery and accelerate the time interval between discovery, development, testing and availability of new drugs in the healthcare market. PhD student Sarah Ren (photograph below) presented a talk on the role of Network Structure Learning.
Posters presenting their research results were provided by Dr Peng Liu and by PhD Students Tong Wang (pictured, above) and Jose Perusquia-Cortes.
