Funding success for PhD students

A group of PhD students and academic staff members, from the statistical ecology group, applied for funding from the Kent Graduate School and the Eastern ARC and have been successful in their application. The group will receive funding of £1500 to host a one day event at the University of Kent. This statistical ecology festival will take place in June 2016 and will bring together both statisticians and ecologists.  It will be a great opportunity for the statistics students to learn more about the ecological data, how it is collected, what specific questions the ecologists are trying to answer and the practical problems that can be encountered. Ecology students will have the chance to learn more about the wide array of statistical techniques used to analyse ecological data, the statistical challenges faced and current areas of statistical research. The event will comprise oral presentations and posters and there will be a round table, which will allow statisticians and ecologists to discuss their analyses. Attendees and speakers will gather from UEA, Essex and Kent.
