On September 14th, SMSAS co-hosted one of our regular events with the Further Maths Support Programme (FMSP) in and around Keynes College. There were around 90 GCSE students from local secondary schools who got to experience a carousel of three hands-on sessions on the topics of Magic Maths, Bridge Building and Topology. The day finished with a highly engaging talk from Colin Wright, one of the inventors of the Siteswap notation for juggling.
Our team of Ambassadors, consisting of Freyja Bills, John Lubi and Patrick Ryan, helped enormously by managing the event and supporting their groups of students throughout the day. Judith Broom also organised the food and drink, which was very well received by the teachers and staff involved. The Topology session was led by Rachael Whyman, who received lots of excellent feedback.
We will be running many future sessions with the FMSP, including a Sixth Form Challenge Day and Further Maths Revision Event. They also help to promote many of our other Outreach activities, including our CPD training days and our Masterclass series.
