{"id":773,"date":"2014-08-08T14:29:54","date_gmt":"2014-08-08T14:29:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/?p=773"},"modified":"2014-08-08T14:36:37","modified_gmt":"2014-08-08T14:36:37","slug":"margots-benchmark-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/2014\/08\/08\/margots-benchmark-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Margot&#8217;s Benchmark Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Creative Events student Margot Laureau,\u00a0recently won a competition to design and create a unique bench as part of a project led by Canterbury City Council.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2014\/08\/11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-774\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2014\/08\/11-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Margot's Bench\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2014\/08\/11-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2014\/08\/11-1024x764.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The project has been made possible after Herne Bay was awarded \u00a350,000 by the <a title=\"The People's Millions website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.peoplesmillions.org.uk\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">ITV Peoples\u2019 Millions<\/span><\/span><\/a> initiative to improve its sea front and to help improve the accessibility and facilities near the beach\u00a0at Herne Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Margot began\u00a0the design and creation of the bench in July. After a few initial design ideas, her\u00a0final imaginative\u00a0creation features a selection of drawings of Herne Bay\u2019s historic landmarks, including its clock tower, as well as a number of her own drawings which depict the history of the seaside. She wanted to portray the town&#8217;s architectural and artist heritage.<\/p>\n<p>With the support of the staff at the School, she started this project last month and it is now at Herne Bay, waiting for it&#8217;s grand opening.
