{"id":2875,"date":"2018-06-25T14:39:31","date_gmt":"2018-06-25T14:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/?p=2875"},"modified":"2018-06-25T14:50:30","modified_gmt":"2018-06-25T14:50:30","slug":"smfa-music-lecturers-win-university-of-kent-teaching-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/2018\/06\/25\/smfa-music-lecturers-win-university-of-kent-teaching-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"SMFA Music Lecturers win University of Kent Teaching Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2018\/06\/A95P2824-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2882\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2018\/06\/A95P2824-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2018\/06\/A95P2824-1.jpg 480w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2018\/06\/A95P2824-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SMFA\u2019s Dr Ruth Herbert and Dr Rich Perks have been awarded a first prize of \u00a33000 Humanities Faculty Teaching Prize 2018 for their innovations regarding music\u00a0performance teaching at Kent. \u00a0The award will constitute extra budget for the teaching on the programmes at SMFA.<\/p>\n<p>The Panel considering the applications comprised Dr Simon Kirchin (Dean), Dr Montserrat Roser-i-Puig (Associate Dean, Education), Fran Beaton (UELT), Dr Vybarr Cregan-Reid (previous prize winner) and Rebecca Bailey (student representative).<\/p>\n<p>In their feedback, the Panel referred to, \u201cSound pedagogical grounding and evidence of student improvement and engagement\u201d with a \u201cstrong use of student feedback\u201d and \u201cparticularly liked the reflective element of both the teaching strategy and the application\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A music psychologist and performer, Dr Herbert is SMFA&#8217;s Lecturer in Contemporary and 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Century Music Performance.
