{"id":2326,"date":"2016-10-28T12:14:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-28T12:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/?p=2326"},"modified":"2016-10-28T12:14:15","modified_gmt":"2016-10-28T12:14:15","slug":"partnership-with-city-of-rochester-symphony-orchestra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/2016\/10\/28\/partnership-with-city-of-rochester-symphony-orchestra\/","title":{"rendered":"Partnership with City of Rochester Symphony Orchestra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2016\/10\/crso_identity_cmyk.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2327 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2016\/10\/crso_identity_cmyk-1024x365.jpg\" alt=\"crso_identity\" width=\"474\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2016\/10\/crso_identity_cmyk-1024x365.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2016\/10\/crso_identity_cmyk-300x107.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2016\/10\/crso_identity_cmyk-768x274.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The School of Music and Fine Art is delighted by the opportunities the continuing supportive partnership with the City of Rochester Symphony Orchestra (CRSO) offers.<\/p>\n<p>The orchestra has given\u00a05 World Premiere performances of music by student composers from the\u00a0School of Music and Fine Art, and the CRSO outreach programme includes a Young Composers&#8217; evening which allows young composers from the local area to hear their works played by the orchestra.<\/p>\n<p>University of Kent at Medway music students play in the City of Rochester Symphony Orchestra, which performs two student compositions every year in their concerts.<\/p>\n<p>Lis Sadler, Orchestral Manager, City of Rochester Symphony Orchestra says, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>Thanks to our link with the University of Kent, our orchestra is developing an ever more vibrant and forward-looking ethos.\u00a0 Plenty of new ideas in the pipeline, and some great young people to work with &#8211; exciting!\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ruth Herbert, Lecturer in Music Performance in the School of Music and Fine Art added, <em>\u201cThe partnership with CRSO just seems to go from strength to strength! Our students really love being part of the CRSO &#8211; both playing in it and composing for it. It&#8217;s fantastic for their musical development to be involved with such a vibrant organisation&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>The CRSO was formed in 1969 to nurture excellence through music in the community. Under Music Director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peterbassano.com\/\">Peter Bassano<\/a>, and President, <a href=\"http:\/\/imgartists.com\/artist\/sir_roger_norrington\">Sir Roger Norrington<\/a>, the CRSO has approximately 60 playing members, both amateur and professional musicians, who perform concerts at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tickets.medway.gov.uk\/thecentraltheatre.aspx\">The Central Theatre, Chatham<\/a>, and other venues in Kent.
