{"id":2119,"date":"2016-06-09T10:30:49","date_gmt":"2016-06-09T10:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/?p=2119"},"modified":"2016-06-09T10:48:44","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T10:48:44","slug":"listening-spaces-and-the-sounding-world-thursday-16-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/2016\/06\/09\/listening-spaces-and-the-sounding-world-thursday-16-june\/","title":{"rendered":"Listening, Spaces and the Sounding World: Thursday 16 June"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of Kent\u2019s Centre for Interdisciplinary Spatial Studies (KISS) week-long festival of events, in collaboration with various Schools at both the Canterbury and Medway campuses,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/smfa\/events\/KISS%20Festival%20June%20Programme%202016.pdf\"> from 13<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 17<sup>th<\/sup> June 2016<\/a>, the School of Music and Fine Art will be hosting a SISRC\/KISS\/CHASE research event in the <strong>Clock Tower Lecture Theatre<\/strong> (CT102), The Historic Dockyard Chatham, on <strong>Thursday 16 June<\/strong> from 11:30 to 17:30. The event is called <em>Listening, Spaces and the Sounding World<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Sound, and how it functions with space and materials, is essential to our experience of the world around us. <em>Aki Pasoulas,<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0School of Music and Fine Art Senior Lecturer, and <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Director of MAAST (<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/smfa\/musicandaudio\/postgraduate\/maast.html\"><strong>Music and Audio Arts Sound Theatre<\/strong><\/a><strong>) <\/strong>will lead a workshop on how sound interacts with space and listening at the innovative Sound-Image-Space Research Centre.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The programme is as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>11:30 &#8211; Soundscape and Ear Cleaning. (Please bring with you an A4 writing board (or similar) and a pen, which you can carry with you during the soundwalk.)<\/p>\n<p>13:30 &#8211; Break. (Bring your own sandwiches)<\/p>\n<p>14:15 &#8211; \u00a0Talking Rain\u2019 (multichannel work by Hildegard Westerkamp): Listening session and discussion followed by a short break.<\/p>\n<p>15:15 &#8211; \u00a0Berlin Babylon\u2019 (88 min, dir.
