{"id":2049,"date":"2016-04-06T10:09:21","date_gmt":"2016-04-06T10:09:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/?p=2049"},"modified":"2016-04-06T10:09:21","modified_gmt":"2016-04-06T10:09:21","slug":"3-concerts-in-3-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/2016\/04\/06\/3-concerts-in-3-days\/","title":{"rendered":"3 Concerts in 3 Days!"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2051\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2051\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2016\/04\/image2MUSIC.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2051\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2051 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2016\/04\/image2MUSIC.jpg\" alt=\"image2MUSIC\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2016\/04\/image2MUSIC.jpg 480w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/smfa-news\/files\/2016\/04\/image2MUSIC-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2051\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Stacey Cooper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss the incredibly varied programme for our <strong>Easter Concert on Weds 6th April<\/strong> at 7.30pm in the Galvanising Workshop when music students perform a lively array of scored and improvised music that encompasses Elgar, Adele, Bowie, Duke Ellington and drumming from Senegal.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the <strong>University Orchestra (Medway)<\/strong> performing the first movement of Edward Elgar\u2019s\u00a0<em>Serenade in E minor<\/em> in an orchestral arrangement prepared for this concert, the <strong>Chamber Ensemble<\/strong> perform works by Maurice Emmanuel and Luigi Boccherini.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Chamber Choir<\/strong> will sing a range of songs that include Adele\u2019s\u00a0<em>Skyfall<\/em> Bond Theme, and <em>Life on Mars<\/em>, by David Bowie who sadly died earlier this year.\u00a0 <strong>The Little Big Band<\/strong> play work that includes George Shearing and Duke Ellington, whilst the <strong>Jazz Improvisation Ensembles<\/strong> perform Miles Davis, Kenny Dorham, Sidney Bechet and a Handel arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>And the <strong>World Percussion Ensemble<\/strong> presents Kumpo, traditional djembe drumming from Senegal in our own concert version.<\/p>\n<p>So there is definitely something for everyone \u2013 a feast for the ears!<\/p>\n<p>And the day before, <strong>Tuesday April 5th <\/strong>at 12 noon, there is another popular Ensemble Performance Lunchtime Concert when you can hear our students studying band and ensemble playing.<\/p>\n<p>Both events take place in the Galvanising Workshop, Chatham Historic Dockyard.<\/p>\n<p>And don\u2019t forget the <strong>Popular Music Gig on April 7th<\/strong>, 8pm until late, takes place at Cargo Bar, Liberty Quays, showcasing bands from the School of Music &amp; Fine Art who will perform sets of original material and covers.
