{"id":437,"date":"2021-03-23T13:57:15","date_gmt":"2021-03-23T13:57:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/seda-employability\/?p=437"},"modified":"2021-03-23T13:57:15","modified_gmt":"2021-03-23T13:57:15","slug":"whitworth-scholarship-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/seda-employability\/2021\/03\/23\/whitworth-scholarship-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Whitworth Scholarship Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Supporting the development of outstanding young engineers planning to embark on or already on an undergraduate degree level programme.<\/p>\n<div class=\"long-form\">\n<h4>Eligibility<\/h4>\n<p>The Whitworth Awards are open to engineers in all the main engineering disciplines including mechanical civil electrical and other engineering disciplines<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We welcome applications from anyone who has pursued a vocational route in an engineering discipline typically for at least two years after having left full-time education and before entering a degree-level engineering course.<\/li>\n<li>For undergraduate engineering degree-level courses of any engineering discipline including MEng and postgraduate MSc courses<\/li>\n<li>We also offer awards to students who are already enrolled on an engineering degree-level programme of any engineering discipline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The eligibility requirements for both undergraduate and MSc studies are as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>For undergraduate study<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants must be a British, Commonwealth or European Union citizen.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least three consecutive years prior to undertaking study in the UK at a college of FE\/HE or university.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must have pursued a vocational route in an engineering discipline typically for at least two years after having left full-time education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For MSc study<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants must be a recent graduate who has typically completed at least two-years of an engineering apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must be a British, Commonwealth or European Union Citizen.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must be normally resident in the United Kingdom and have lived here for the last three years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"long-form\">\n<h4>Award conditions<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Only one Whitworth Award can be granted to an individual.<\/li>\n<li>Interviews are mandatory for all short-listed candidates.<\/li>\n<li>The Whitworth Scholarship Award can be held in conjunction with other awards (except any other Whitworth Award).<\/li>\n<li>Progress reports will be required annually and award holders will be notified of the form they should take. An unsatisfactory report could lead to termination of the award.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Award criteria<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The Whitworth Awards panel is looking for outstanding young engineers who would justify consideration for one of the awards offered annually in the United Kingdom.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates are expected to display academic excellence and practical ability together with the personal qualities needed to achieve success in industry.<\/li>\n<li>Particular attention is paid to each candidates record in practical engineering at school\/college and the employing organisation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Value of award<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Full-time study: \u00a39,000 per year for up to four years (excluding industrial placements)<\/li>\n<li>Sandwich degree: the award will be paid on a pro-rata basis<\/li>\n<li>Part-time study: the award will be paid on a reduced basis normally \u00a33,000 per year<\/li>\n<li>MSc (1 year full-time): \u00a39,000<\/li>\n<li>MSc (2 year part-time): normally \u00a33,000 per year<\/li>\n<li>The Whitworth Scholarship Award will not exceed a total of \u00a336,000 for any individual<\/li>\n<li>At completion of the programme of study, the panel will consider the candidates overall achievements.
