Monday 8 March
Finding Experience in the creative industries (small group Q&A) – 15.00-16.00
Are you looking for work experience opportunities in the creative industries? Join this informal group Q&A to discuss ways of gaining relevant experience, job hunting resources, and how to talk about your experience.
Careers in Film and Media – Working in the Film Industry, 17.00-18.30
Sajid Varda will talk about his personal journey as actor and producer– from starting out to sustaining a career in the film industry. Sajid will address the need for diversity in his roles as CEO & Founder of UK Muslim Film and Co-Chair of the BFI Screen Advisory Group on diversity. He will also share insights about developing a creative platform for filmmakers through the Muslim International Film Festival.

Being a Creative Freelancer (and why you should declare yourself self-employed) – 12.00-13.00
Working freelance is a normal part of building a career in the cultural and creative industries. Come and find out about the freedoms and responsibilities of being self-employed and having a portfolio career, and make sure you are ready to go when you graduate. Will Wollen is Senior Lecturer in Drama and has worked freelance in the creative sector for over 20 years. He is currently on the Careers and Education Working Group in the Creative Industries Federation
Creating a Great CV for the Creative Industries – 14.00-15.00
This presentation will cover the do’s and don’ts when it comes to creating a great CV and covering letter for the creative industries, including how to structure a CV and how to make an impact!
Careers in Digital Media – Alumni Q&A panel – 17.00-18.00
Are you interested in a career in gaming, animation, film or web development?
The event will be hosted by Mike Green and Blaine Epsley and will include a panel of alumni from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts talking about their careers so far. It will be a great opportunity to find out more about working in the industry, get some advice from people who have been in your situation and have successfully broken into the industry, and get your questions answered.

Maintaining a Portfolio Career and Networking strategies in the Creative Industries – 11.00-12.00
This seminar will look at the advantages and trend towards portfolio careers and how to approach networking to further opportunities for employment in the Creative Industries.
How to get a job in the Creative Industry – 13.00-14.00
Join Sam Fairbrother (Senior designer at P&W and Founder of Tern Heads) as she highlights employment changes post Covid and shares action plans that you can do now, to help secure your first job or client in the creative industry.
All smoke & mirrors – How to get that first job in the creative industry, 17.30-18.30
Getting that all-important first job in many areas of the creative arts is tricky even without a pandemic, but there are some tips and advice that might just help you to stand out from the rest. This informal session, with diverse industry professionals from the world of theatre, film and event management and including a Kent graduate, will get you thinking about how to make the most of your experience and how to express yourself with potential employers.
