Interested in a career in Data Science or Data Analysis but not sure which one is right for you or what the work involves? Two Kent alumni, Haidar Altaie Data Scientist, SAS (Graduated in 2018 from Kent, BSc Maths and Statistics) and Scarlett Angel Data Analyst, Equifax (Graduated Kent in 2019, BSc Biomedical Science with a Year in Data Analytics) will be talking about their careers so far, explaining their roles and the work they are involved in, as well as the key skills required.

Year in Data Analytics – Tuesday 02 March at 1pm

Find out how you can do a year in data analytics as part of your degree. Run by Kent’s School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science for students already studying at Kent. It offers a great opportunity to develop your understanding of a tool that is revolutionising the way we work.

Working for the NHS in Data Analytics – Wednesday 3rd March 2pm

Rich Ewins (Head of Information Development and Data Architecture) and Joe Watkins (Business Intelligence Lead, Surgery & Anaesthetics) and former SMSAS Lecturer will be talking about their work within the NHS and the real life impact it has on the operations of the NHS, as well as the key skills and attributes they look for in potential hires.

Government Operational Research Service Placement Talk -Thursday 4th March at 12.30pm

The event will include a presentation run by an experienced GORS analyst and a current placement student as well as an opportunity to have your questions answered. They will give you an overview of what working in GORS is like, the kinds of projects you might be working on and what you can expect from a year placement with us. There is also a valuable opportunity here to get an insight into the application form and interview process. Past placement students have attended one of our presentations, consequently applied and been successful, going on to really enjoy their year with us and thrive on their return to university.

SQL Training Bootcamp by FDM – Thursday 4 March at 2-3.30pm

This session will provide final year students and graduates an insight into SQL – a coding language any data enthusiast should have in their skillset. We will provide you with a dataset and show you how to query and manipulate using an example business case.

Hosted by the FDM Group, who deliver award winning training to over 1,000 grads each year, helping them kick-start their career in tech. Join us as we demonstrate that it’s now easier than ever to start programming.
