This competition has been shaped by the exciting research being undertaken in the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/egypt-artefacts\/\">Roman and Late Antique Artefacts from Egypt<\/a>\u00a0project, bringing artefacts from the past back to life \u2013 and the Department is inviting budding students of archaeology to do the same through the power of storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>Entrants are invited to write a short story inspired by one of the artefacts featured on the project\u2019s blog, and prizes up for grabs include a first prize of \u00a3100, a second prize of \u00a350, and two runners-up prizes of \u00a325.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested in entering the project may wish to be inspired by the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/culture\/whats-on\/sounds-roman-egypt\">Sounds of Roman Egypt<\/a>\u2019 exhibition at the Petrie Museum, which has one of the largest and best-documented collections of Roman artefacts in the UK, including musical instruments that are too fragile to be played today.<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/files\/2019\/03\/Short-Story-competition-2019-1.pdf\">Short Story competition 2019<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Classical and Archaeological studies has launched a\u00a0Short Story competition for students in years 7-12 in UK schools and colleges.
