{"id":8356,"date":"2018-02-16T11:37:11","date_gmt":"2018-02-16T11:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=8356"},"modified":"2018-09-19T10:54:09","modified_gmt":"2018-09-19T09:54:09","slug":"sophia-labadis-museums-and-immigrants-research-in-the-press","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2018\/02\/16\/sophia-labadis-museums-and-immigrants-research-in-the-press\/","title":{"rendered":"Sophia Labadi&#8217;s museums and immigrants research in the press"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/staff\/labadi.html\">Dr Sophia Labadi<\/a>, Senior Lecturer in Heritage and Archaeology from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/index.html\">Department of Classical &amp; Archaeological Studies<\/a>, has made a number of recent media appearances following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/news\/index.html?view=7828\">publication of her book <em>Museums, Immigrants, and Social Justice\u00a0<\/em><\/a>(Routledge, 2017).<\/p>\n<p>In a piece contributed to <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/uk\">The Conversation<\/a>, entitled \u2018What museums must do to get more immigrants through their\u00a0doors, Sophia argues that museums play an important role in helping migrants settle into their home countries.\u00a0\u00a0 Her research found that museums have made some effort to address daily issues faced by immigrants by\u00a0offering language learning classes and employment skills. However, these programmes have\u00a0tended to exclude less-privileged immigrants.
