{"id":834,"date":"2013-05-16T11:59:58","date_gmt":"2013-05-16T11:59:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=834"},"modified":"2017-06-15T10:24:13","modified_gmt":"2017-06-15T09:24:13","slug":"new-classics-cartoon-four-sisters-in-ancient-rome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2013\/05\/16\/new-classics-cartoon-four-sisters-in-ancient-rome\/","title":{"rendered":"New cartoon from Classics &amp; Archaeology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Ray Laurence has completed work on a follow-up to his TED-Ed cartoon &#8216;A Glimpse of Teenage Life in Ancient Rome&#8217;, which has been watched by over 180,000 people so far. \u00a0The cartoon produced in collaboration with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitivemedia.co.uk\/\">Cognitive Media<\/a>, based in Folkestone, and has resulted in both the University and Cognitive Media being shortlisted for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecultureawards.org\/\">Canterbury Culture Award<\/a> in the category &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecultureawards.org\/categories\/\">Commercial Collaboration<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>Part II is entitled &#8216;Four Sisters in Ancient Rome&#8217;. Ray explained the rationale behind the follow-up cartoon: &#8216;The second animation was made in response to requests of viewers of an earlier one that they wanted to know what life was like in Rome for young girls and a simple desire to have another animation on Rome.&#8217; \u00a0Ray also wanted to present his academic work on Roman betrothal to a wider public, and combined this aspect with his research on children&#8217;s graffiti in Pompeii. He also pulls in a further aspect of his research \u2013 movement in the city of Rome.
