{"id":7990,"date":"2017-10-13T17:40:11","date_gmt":"2017-10-13T16:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=7990"},"modified":"2017-10-20T16:06:20","modified_gmt":"2017-10-20T15:06:20","slug":"philosophy-for-sixth-formers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2017\/10\/13\/philosophy-for-sixth-formers\/","title":{"rendered":"Philosophy for sixth formers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A-Level students from the Kent region will be on campus next week to attend our Philosophy Sixth-Form Conference, on Wednesday 18 October 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Staff from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/index.html\">Department of Philosophy<\/a>\u00a0will be delivering sessions to give a taster for studying these subjects\u00a0at a university level. A mixture of seminars and plenary sessions are offered throughout the day, including such tempting titles as &#8216;Becoming a New Person\u2019, &#8216;Do We Have Any Duty to Obey Our State\u2019s Laws?&#8217;, \u2018Who Wants to Live Forever\u2019, \u2018&#8221;I Want to See Him Suffer&#8221;: Pain, Punishment and the Law\u2019, and \u2018Democracy, the EU and Brexit\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The day will run from 10.00am until the afternoon, with five\u00a0half-hour seminars and a campus tour.<\/p>\n<p>Participating members of the Department include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/couto.html\">Dr Alexandra Couto<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/forbes.html\">Dr Graeme Forbes<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/kanterian.html\">Dr Edward Kanterian<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/ware.html\">Dr Lauren Ware<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/postgraduate\/reseach-philosophy.html\">PhD student<\/a> Alyx Robinson.
