{"id":7929,"date":"2017-09-29T15:31:58","date_gmt":"2017-09-29T14:31:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=7929"},"modified":"2017-09-29T16:03:15","modified_gmt":"2017-09-29T15:03:15","slug":"music-and-exhibition-imagine-folkestones-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2017\/09\/29\/music-and-exhibition-imagine-folkestones-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Music and exhibition imagine Folkestone\u2019s future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/staff\/labadi.html\">Dr Sophia Labadi<\/a>, Senior Lecturer in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/researchcentres\/centre-for-heritage\/index.html\">Heritage<\/a> and Archaeology in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/index.html\">Department of Classical &amp; Archaeological Studies<\/a>, has co-organised an event \u2018Fanfare for a Seaside Town: Imagining Folkestone\u2019s Future\u2019 to be held on at 6pm Friday 13 October and repeated at 11am, 2pm and 6pm on Saturday 14 October 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The event is a joint venture with composer\/performer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Annamerriel\">Anna Braithwaite<\/a> and artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.andytuohy.co.uk\/\">Andy Tuohy<\/a>, in conjunction with artist\/curator Diane Dever, which invites Folkestone residents to make their voices heard on the subject of the town\u2019s future. The resulting exhibition will display artwork inspired by the themes that arose during a series of workshops and interviews with the local community, and will feature music and analysis in the form of an innovative \u2018gig lecture\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Describing the event, Sophia explained \u2018This is an excellent opportunity to research the social impact of heritage and art based regeneration in the South of England and try to find new models that do not lead to gentrification\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The event is part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.folkestonetriennial.org.uk\/\">Folkestone Triennual<\/a>, a festival of events celebrating the rich cultural history and built environment\u00a0of Folkestone and its surrounding area.
