{"id":7849,"date":"2017-09-14T11:47:21","date_gmt":"2017-09-14T10:47:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=7849"},"modified":"2017-09-14T11:47:21","modified_gmt":"2017-09-14T10:47:21","slug":"angelos-evangelou-publishes-on-madness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2017\/09\/14\/angelos-evangelou-publishes-on-madness\/","title":{"rendered":"Angelos Evangelou publishes on madness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Angelos Evangelou, Associate Lecturer in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/complit\/index.html\">Department of Comparative Literature<\/a>, has just published a new book entitled <em>Philosophizing Madness from Nietzsche to Derrida<\/em> (Palgrave, 2017).<\/p>\n<p>Drawing connections between madness, philosophy and autobiography, Angelos\u2019 book addresses\u00a0the question of how Nietzsche&#8217;s madness might have affected his later works. It also\u00a0explores why continental philosophy after Nietzsche is so fascinated with madness, and how it (re)considers, (re)evaluates and (re)valorises madness.<\/p>\n<p>To answer these questions, the book analyses the work of three major figures in twentieth-century French philosophy who were significantly influenced by Nietzsche: Bataille, Foucault and Derrida, examining the ways in which their responses to Nietzsche\u2019s madness determine how they understand philosophy as well as philosophy\u2019s relation to madness.
