{"id":7788,"date":"2017-08-23T14:12:36","date_gmt":"2017-08-23T13:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=7788"},"modified":"2017-08-23T15:53:20","modified_gmt":"2017-08-23T14:53:20","slug":"charity-walk-on-the-via-francigena","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2017\/08\/23\/charity-walk-on-the-via-francigena\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity walk on the Via Francigena"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Julia Peters, a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/postgraduate\/research-classical-archaeological-studies.html\">PhD student<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/index.html\">Department of Classical &amp;\u00a0Archaeological Studies<\/a>,\u00a0has organised a charity walk along the on the historic route, the Via Francigena, from Canterbury to Dover for the charity\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.savethechildren.org.uk\/\">Save the Children<\/a>, to take place on Saturday 7 October 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Via Francigena (the French Way), was originally the Roman route which connected the British Isles to Rome. The UK section today is better know as the North Downs Way, and the walk will begin at the gates of Canterbury Cathedral, \u00a0progress through the picturesque villages of Patrixbourne and Womenswold, through Shepherdswell and finishing at the port of Dover.<\/p>\n<p>The walk aims to raise \u00a33,000 for Save the Children. The funds raised by the charity walk will contribute to the programmes run by Save the Children to provide education for some of the 28 million children living in areas of conflict who are currently out of school.<\/p>\n<p>The walk is open to all.
