{"id":7671,"date":"2017-07-27T10:10:44","date_gmt":"2017-07-27T09:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=7671"},"modified":"2017-07-27T10:14:57","modified_gmt":"2017-07-27T09:14:57","slug":"new-leverhulme-funded-project-on-mindfulness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2017\/07\/27\/new-leverhulme-funded-project-on-mindfulness\/","title":{"rendered":"New Leverhulme-funded project on mindfulness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leverhulme.ac.uk\/\">Leverhulme Trust<\/a> has just awarded a research grant for a project entitled \u2018Beyond Personal Wellbeing: Mapping the Social Production of Mindfulness in England and Wales\u2019, for which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/staff\/king.html\">Richard King<\/a>, Professor of Buddhist and Asian Studies in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/index.html\">Department of Religious Studies<\/a>, is co-investigator.<\/p>\n<p>Mindfulness is now being employed not only as a therapy, but also to ensure national well-being, happiness, and flourishing; productivity, performance, and efficiency; sustainability, creativity and activism. But what does the exponential rise of mindfulness tell us about the social world in which we are currently living?<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in October 2017, the project will investigate mindfulness provision in England and Wales, looking at the increasing availability of mindfulness practice, specifically in the fields of health and well-being, education, business, politics, and religion.<\/p>\n<p>Richard has recently given a Think Kent lecture on mindfulness, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/news\/index.html?view=7553\">entitled &#8216;Mindfulness and the Buddhist Tradition&#8217;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The project is led by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/people\/view\/38086-stanley-steven\">Dr Steven Stanley<\/a> (University of Cardiff).
