{"id":7613,"date":"2017-07-10T10:00:48","date_gmt":"2017-07-10T09:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=7613"},"modified":"2017-07-07T16:18:35","modified_gmt":"2017-07-07T15:18:35","slug":"new-research-site-on-the-south-american-wars-of-independence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2017\/07\/10\/new-research-site-on-the-south-american-wars-of-independence\/","title":{"rendered":"New research site on the South American wars of independence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/modern-languages\/\/news\/index.html?view=4449\">a Leverhulme Trust research award<\/a>, a research network led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/modern-languages\/staff\/perea.html\">Dr Natalia Sobrevilla Perea<\/a>, Reader in Hispanic Studies in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/modern-languages\/index.html\">Department of Modern Languages<\/a>, has just launched a new website to explore the South American Wars of Independence, entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/warandnation\/\">War and Nation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The network seeks to explore the way war became a catalyst for the creation of identity in South America. From early on war fuelled the development of identities that would eventually become national. New nations developed within the colonial administrative areas that the Spaniards had imposed.
