{"id":7544,"date":"2017-10-26T10:20:24","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T09:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=7544"},"modified":"2017-09-29T11:45:57","modified_gmt":"2017-09-29T10:45:57","slug":"simon-elliott-to-talk-on-everyday-life-in-roman-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2017\/10\/26\/simon-elliott-to-talk-on-everyday-life-in-roman-london\/","title":{"rendered":"Simon Elliott to talk on everyday life in Roman London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Simon Elliott, who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/postgraduate\/research-classical-archaeological-studies.html\">completed his PhD<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/index.html\">Department of Classical &amp; Archaeological Studies<\/a>, will be delivering a talk entitled \u2018Everyday Life in Roman London\u2019 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityoflondon.gov.uk\/things-to-do\/guildhall-library\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Guildhall Library<\/a> in London on 2\u00a0November 2017.<\/p>\n<p>In this talk, Simon will narrate a day in the life of a wide variety of Roman Londoners in the mid 2nd century AD when the city was at its height during the Roman occupation. He will lift the lid on every aspect of day-to-day living in the city during the Roman period, from every perspective in society, showing how some things were very similar to our experiences today, but some things very different.<\/p>\n<p>Simon\u2019s PhD project, considered industry in Roman Kent and the role of Roman Military therein, was\u00a0entitled \u2018Late Roman Kent\u2019 and supervised by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/staff\/willis.html\">Dr Steve Willis<\/a>. Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/news\/index.html?view=6487\">Simon published his first historical book<\/a>, <em>Sea Eagles of Empire: The Classis Britannica and the Battles for Britain\u00a0<\/em>(The History Press, 2016).<\/p>\n<p>The event is part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitlondon.com\/romans\/londinium-events\">Londinium<\/a> season, a series of events to tell the city\u2019s Roman story.
