{"id":7463,"date":"2017-06-14T11:58:29","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T10:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=7463"},"modified":"2017-06-14T13:41:58","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T12:41:58","slug":"linguistics-phd-student-wins-ipra-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2017\/06\/14\/linguistics-phd-student-wins-ipra-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Linguistics PhD student wins IPrA prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Isabella Reichl, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/postgraduate\/research-linguistics.html\">PhD in Linguistics<\/a> student, has just been awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/ipra.uantwerpen.be\">International Pragmatics Association<\/a> (IPrA) Student Prize for her paper \u2018Refusals in Early Modern English Drama Texts: New Insights, New Classification\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The award includes the publication of the paper in the IPrA journal <em>Pragmatics<\/em>, as well as \u00a3500. Isabella received a message from the prize committee, praising her paper as \u2018an admirably accomplished scholarly exploration of\u00a0\u00a0historical pragmatics, done with gusto and technical expertise\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Isabella is undertaking her PhD project on &#8216;Initiating and Countering Pre-cooperative Illocutionary Acts in Present Day English&#8217;, supervised by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/staff\/kapogianni.html\">Dr Eleni Kapogianni<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The International Pragmatics Association is the largest and most renown international community of researchers working in the field of linguistic pragmatics. Established in 1986, it now has on average 1,400 members in over 70 countries. Its conference is organised every two years, attracting a very large number of attendees.
