{"id":701,"date":"2013-03-21T17:28:21","date_gmt":"2013-03-21T17:28:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=701"},"modified":"2013-08-31T14:50:46","modified_gmt":"2013-08-31T14:50:46","slug":"legality-and-legitimacy-from-weimar-1932-to-bucharest-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2013\/03\/21\/legality-and-legitimacy-from-weimar-1932-to-bucharest-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Legality and Legitimacy: From Weimar 1932 to Bucharest 2012?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/edward-kanterian.html\">Dr Edward Kanterian<\/a>, from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/index.html\">Department of Philosophy<\/a>, is organising a one-day workshop, focusing on the relation between the legal and political order in constitutional democracies in a time of crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Entitled &#8216;Legality and Legitimacy: From Weimar 1932 to Bucharest 2012?&#8217;, the workshop will take the Weimar crisis of 1932 as a departure point, to investigate the contrast between Carl Schmitt&#8217;s and Hans Kelsen&#8217;s approach to this crisis in order to gain insights about the recent constitutional crises in Romania and Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will be based on a close reading of selected chapters in David Dyzenhaus&#8217; monograph <em>Legality and Legitimacy: Carl Schmitt, Hans Kelsen and Hermann Heller in Weimar<\/em> (1999), and the application of his findings to recent developments in Romania and Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop is interdisciplinary.
