{"id":6861,"date":"2017-02-03T10:12:34","date_gmt":"2017-02-03T10:12:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=6861"},"modified":"2018-04-04T12:33:04","modified_gmt":"2018-04-04T11:33:04","slug":"symposium-on-religion-and-atheism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2017\/02\/03\/symposium-on-religion-and-atheism\/","title":{"rendered":"Symposium on religion and atheism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/index.html\">Department of Religious Studies<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/index.html\">Department of Philosophy<\/a> are jointly organising a symposium on religion and atheism on Wednesday 15 February from 1-5pm in Keynes Seminar Room 15.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium follows the recent publication of a new book entitled, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.routledge.com\/Religion-and-Atheism-Beyond-the-Divide\/Carroll-Norman\/p\/book\/9781138891913\">Religion and Atheism: Beyond the Divide<\/a><\/em> (Routledge, 2016), co-edited by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/norman.html\">Professor Richard Norman<\/a>, Emeritus Professor of Morale Philosophy, in the Department of Philosophy and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heythrop.ac.uk\/staff\/dr-anthony-carroll\">Dr Anthony Carroll<\/a> (Heythrop College, London). The book includes chapters by Religious Studies colleague\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/staff\/gill.html\">Professor Robin Gill<\/a>, entitled \u2018Faith, Ethics and Values\u2019, and Dr Anna Strhan, entitled \u2018Matters of Life and Death\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium will discuss some of the main themes of the book and seeks to move exchanges between the religious and the non-religious onto a more constructive level and do justice to the diversity of religion and belief.
