{"id":6739,"date":"2016-11-24T12:26:40","date_gmt":"2016-11-24T12:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=6739"},"modified":"2017-08-29T16:27:13","modified_gmt":"2017-08-29T15:27:13","slug":"philosophy-sixth-form-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2016\/11\/24\/philosophy-sixth-form-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Philosophy sixth-form conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A-Level students from a number of schools in the Kent region will be on campus next week to attend our Philosophy Sixth-Form Conference, on Wednesday 30 November 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Staff from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/index.html\">Department of Philosophy<\/a>\u00a0will be delivering sessions to give a taster for studying these subjects\u00a0at a university level. A mixture of seminars and plenary sessions are offered throughout the day, including such tempting titles as \u2018Machiavelli on the Man and the Beast&#8217;, \u2018The Intellectually Disabled: Persons or Non-Persons?\u2019, How To Tell If The Drugs Work&#8217;, &#8216;Fate and the Future&#8217;, and &#8216;The Evil of Death&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The day will run from 10.00am until the afternoon, with five half-hour seminars and a campus tour.<\/p>\n<p>Participating members of the Department include Dr Kristoffer Ahlstrom-Vij, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/forbes.html\">Dr Graeme Forbes<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/kanterian.html\">Dr Edward Kanterian<\/a>, Dr Camillia Kong, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/parkkinen.html\">Dr Veli-Pekka Parkkinen<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/wilde.html\">Dr Michael Wilde<\/a>.
